Binge Eating Disorder Treatment

Self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-care are key elements in the recovery journey. Binge Eating is often about disconnection from self, emotions, and being in the present moment. I view the therapeutic journey as one of collaboration and discovery. My mission is to help you tackle the obstacles that are getting in the way of you having a satisfying relationship with food.
Seek help from me, Michelle Market, a therapist who offers binge eating disorder treatment in Northern Virginia. I’m a Health at Every Size (HAES) practitioner, intuitive eating counselor, and certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS).

What is Binge Eating?

  • Binge Eating, is eating in a discrete period of time (e.g., within any 2-hour period), an amount of food that is definitely larger than most people would eat in a similar period of time under similar circumstances. It is feeling a loss of control over eating during the binge. In other words, you feel that you cannot stop eating and you cannot control what you are eating and how much you are eating.
  • Criteria includes frequent overeating—at least once a week for three months— combined with lack of control, marked feelings of distress, and are associated with three or more of the following:
  • eating much more rapidly than usual;
  • eating until feeling uncomfortably full;
  • eating large amounts of food when you are not feeling physically hungry;
  • eating alone because you are embarrassed by how much you are eating; and
  • feeling disgusted with yourself, depressed, or very guilty afterward.

Together Lets Uncover

  • What is the function of your bingeing? How does your bingeing serve you? What problem does it solve?
  • What are the vulnerabilities that set you up to binge?What are your triggers?
  • Are there any rituals around bingeing, such as eating while watching TV, while in your car, or working on your computer
  • What is different about the days when you don’t binge?
  • What are the ways you manage stress? What are your non-food coping skills?
